“I’ve lived in Alaska since I was 17, in 1987. I’ve been an artist, drawing and painting since I could hold a crayon. Even though my bachelors degree is in Elementary Education, I took many art classes, everything from 3D drawing to photography. I started painting scenery for plays/performances at the Alaska Fine Arts Academy (AFAA) in about 2013, and went on to teach math/art/science camp for kids, as well as some kids and adults art classes. In 2016, I was hired by the then-owner of Palette to teach kids and toddler art classes. In autumn of 2017, both AFAA and Palette stopped renting space, so suddenly, any art classes I was to teach would be at restaurants, doing pop-up classes for Palette. I enjoyed having dedicated art space, so I started my own studio, Starry Night Art, and rented a space in Spenard. Fast forward to late 2018, when the owner of Palette decided to sell the business to me, and the sale was completed in January of 2019. I love teaching, and I love art, so this last few years, I have finally been doing my “dream job” which I am forever grateful for. Covid put a wrench in all of that, but I’m trying to make online classes work!”

St. Andrew’s Night and Christmas Ceilidh celebrates Scotland’s patron saint. He was revered in Scotland from around 1000 AD, but didn’t become the official patron saint of Scotland until the signing of the Declaration of Arbroath in 1320. St. Andrew is the patron saint of the Order of the Thistle, one of the highest ranks of chivalry in the world. We celebrate this day as our holiday party.
This event will host a piper during the meet and greet, a Scottish buffet dinner, the infamous knobby knees contest, as well as a silent auction and photo booth. Live music will be played with our local band. This is an opportunity for Alaskan Scottish Club members and non member to enjoy the evening with music, delicious food and friendship.
Tickets will be available in October. If you would like more information on this event please contact Joan-Massart-Paden 907-229-0022
